Medium and Large Radius Curves: SARO Anti-Wear Solutions for Pneumatic Conveying

Bends represent one of the most critical components in pneumatic conveying systems for bulk and powdery materials. Their function is to divert the material flow along the piping path while maintaining stable conveying conditions, operational continuity, and fluid dynamic efficiency of the system.

In pneumatic conveying, the geometry of the curve directly affects material velocity, pressure drop, plant energy consumption, and especially the phenomena of internal surface erosion and wear.

Medium-radius bends allow for greater adaptability to plant layouts and are used in applications where space is more limited, while still maintaining good transport performance.

Wide radius curves, on the other hand, allow for a more gradual deviation of the flow, reducing turbulence, impacts, and localized material speeds. This configuration is particularly suitable for transporting highly abrasive or fragile materials, as it helps to limit:

  • Internal surface erosion
  • Granulometric degradation of material
  • formation of accumulations and turbulence
  • pressure drops along the line

During operation, the curves are subject to extremely intense wear phenomena caused by the continuous impact of high-speed particles against the internal walls, especially at direction change points and in areas of higher flow concentration.

The areas most subject to wear are particularly:

  • curve overlay
  • material impact points
  • Fittings and direction changes
  • connections with pipes and diverters
  • routes subject to high transport speeds
  • Dilute phase and dense phase pneumatic conveying systems

In these contexts, SARO intervenes with anti-wear solutions designed to increase the operational life of bends, reduce maintenance interventions, and improve the reliability and efficiency of pneumatic transport systems.

SARO develops anti-wear solutions through:

  • high abrasion resistance ceramic coatings – SARCER & SARMOS
  • Wear-resistant curves designed for specific applications – SARCER CURVE
  • Curves and technical components – SAROMAX CURVE – SAROMAX100
  • Ceramic-filled resins for surface restoration and protection – RESINALCERAMICA T250 A/B
  • Integrated solutions designed according to material characteristics and transportation conditions

Solutions are developed considering:

  • Type of material transported
  • Granulometry and abrasiveness
  • transport speed
  • pressure and concentration of the material
  • Line geometry and plant layout
  • Operating conditions and continuity of operation

The goal is:

  • Protect surfaces subject to continuous erosion
  • increase the lifespan of pneumatic lines
  • reduce maintenance and plant shutdowns
  • Improve business continuity and energy efficiency
  • ensure reliability and stability of pneumatic transport streams

SARO supports complex industrial plants in the design and optimization of pneumatic lines, developing wear-resistant solutions integrated with real operating conditions and specific process requirements.
